The Metropolitan Opera is set to celebrate Victoria de Los Ángeles’ centennial on Nov. 1 2023 during a performance of “La Bohème.”

The Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation announced that news noting that the legendary soprano made her Met debut in 1951 with “Faust” and appeared on the Met stage in performances of “Manon,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Pelléas et Mélisande,” and “La Traviata.” She gave her farewell performance with the company in 1961 during a performance of Flotow’s “Martha.”

De Los Ángeles was born on Nov. 1, 1923 and is considered one of the most influential sopranos of her generation. Her recording of “La Bohème” is one of the most iconic in history alongside Jussi Bjorling and Thomas Beecham.

The Met’s performance of the Puccini opera is set to star Federica Lombardi and Matthew Polenzani in the lead roles.
