Metropolitan Opera & Opera Philadelphia Lead Works & Process’ 2024 Fall Season

By Francisco Salazar

The fall 2024 Works & Process season has been announced.

The events will take place at the Guggenheim Museum, Manhattan West, and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Here is a look at the operatic events.

The Metropolitan Opera will present “Grounded” by Jeanine Tesori and George Brant. The event will highlight parts of the opera which tells the story of a Jess, a hotshot fighter pilot whose unplanned pregnancy takes her out of the cockpit and lands her in Las Vegas, operating a reaper drone halfway around the world. As she struggles to adjust to this new way of doing battle, she fights to maintain her sanity, and her soul, as she is called to rain down death by remote control.

Met General Manager Peter Gelb moderates a discussion with the creative team, and members of the cast perform selections from the opera.

Performance Date: Sept. 9, 2024

Opera Philadelphia and Lyric Opera of Chicago present “The Listeners” by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek.

Co-commissioned and co-produced with Opera Philadelphia, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Norwegian National Opera, “The Listeners” examines the lengths to which we, as Americans, are willing to go to find a sense of place and purpose. Members of the creative team will discuss their creative process, and excerpts will be performed.

Performance Date: Sept. 15, 2024
