The Metropolitan Opera will present a live broadcast of Tony Award-winning Director Ivo Van Hove’s new production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” on May 20, 2023 at 12:55 p.m., as part of “The Met: Live in HD” series.

The production will have a world-class cast led by baritone Peter Mattei in the title role, bass-baritone Adam Plachetka (Leporello); sopranos Federica Lombardi, Ana María Martínez and Ying Fang (Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, and Zerlina); tenor Ben Bliss (Don Ottavio); bass-baritone Alfred Walker (Masetto) and bass-baritone Alexander Tsymbalyuk (Commendatore).

Nathalie Stutzmann makes her Live in HD debut on the podium.

Of the opening night production, OperaWire said,”On the whole, I can’t really think of a production thus far this season that has checked all the boxes. A refreshing take on one of the seminal texts of the art form with a tremendous cast and a top-notch conductor? This “Don Giovanni” has that and so much more. Van Hove’s production is not only worth one experience, but multiple to continue discovering the layers and colors of this most fascinating of operas.”

Select audiences can also watch the transmission via the Met’s ‘Live at Home’ platform.
