Metropolitan Opera Guild Launches Second Course Of Online Opera Learning Curriculum

By Nicole Kuchta

The Metropolitan Opera Guild launched its second online course, “The Ring: Music, Motifs, and Magic,” on May 7, 2019. This course was preceded by “Libretti and Librettists.”

According to the Guild’s website, the four-part course uses “video lectures, supplemental readings, and score excerpts” to examine Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.” Prof. Victoria Bond will “provide insight into the musical evolution of each work – from the lighter fare to leitmotifs to the rich, complex musical textures that are woven throughout this epic story of myth and magic.”

The Guild’s online opera learning curriculum is the first of its kind, and allows the arts education organization to extend its reach to opera lovers living outside the New York City area.

The registration fee for the course is $100, and enrollment is available at any time. Content will be available for sixty days following registration.
