The Metropolitan Opera Chorus has launched a fundraising campaign.

The campaign, which is looking to raise $100,000, was launched to help members of the Metropolitan Opera who are represented by the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). Among the artists that the campaign will help include dancers, stage managers, staff performers, full-time and extra choristers, stage directors, and soloists.

The Metropolitan Opera canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 season on March 19 furloughing hundreds of chorus members, artists, and  orchestra members, among others. Recently the company furloughed 41 administrators and cut salaries due to the financial strains.

Per reports by the New York Times, the company stands to lose $60 million with the early cancelation of the 2019-20 season.

The 2020-21 season is expected to open on Sept. 21, 2020 but that was recently put in question with Peter Gelb noting, “Hard decisions will need to be made in the coming weeks about the opening. Perhaps by some miraculous situation we can return in the fall.”
