
Metropolitan Opera Changes Lead Tenor for ‘The Queen of Spades,’ Again

The Metropolitan Opera has announced another major cast change for “The Queen of Spades.”
The role of Hermann will now be sung by Arsen Soghomonyan. It was originally announced with Brian Jagde taking on the role, but the tenor withdrew from the production in favor of Brandon Jovanovich, who is no longer listed on the official website.
This production represents Soghomonyan’s debut at the Met. The Armenian tenor’s upcoming schedule includes a productions of “Otello” at the Stuttgart Opera and Vienna State Opera, “Turandot” at the Greek National Opera, “The Queen of Spades” at State Opera Varna. He has appeared with such companies as the Bolshoi Theatre, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Royal Opera House, Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Palau de les Arts, and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
Per Operabase, in the past year has taken on the role of Hermann at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia and with thhe Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. He also took on the role with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2022.
He joins a cast that stars Sonya Yoncheva, Igor Golovatenko, Violeta Urmana, Alexey markov, and Maria Barakova. Keri-Lynn Wilson conducts.
