The Metropolitan Opera is set to present Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” with a stellar cast.
The performances, which open on May 23, will star Sonya Yoncheva in her return to the Metropolitan Opera after a two-year absence. She will perform Lisa for the very first time and will be joined by tenor Brian Jagde, who makes his role debut as Hermann.
They will be joined by Igor Golovatenko as Prince Yeletsky, Violeta Urmana and Maria Barakova as the Countess and Pauline, and Alexey Markov as Count Tomsky.
Keri-Lynn Wilson conducts Elijah Moshinsky’s classic production.
Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” has only been performed 78 times at the Met, including most recently in 2019.
The May 23 and June 7 performances of “The Queen of Spades” will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app.
