Metropolitan Opera Announces New Mask Optional Policy

By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera in conjunction with the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, Carnegie Hall, and many other venues have announced that masks will be optional.

The company announced that starting Oct. 24 audiences will not be required to wear masks.

According to the Met Opera and the other venues, with vaccines, boosters, and antiviral treatments now widely available, the theaters were advised that it is no longer necessary to require audience members to wear masks.

The theaters did note that audience members who want to wear masks can do so.

The change comes only three weeks after the Met and Lincoln Center announced that masks were mandatory but not proof of vaccination.

The Metropolitan Opera is currently performing productions of “Medea,” “Peter Grimes,” “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk,” and “Idomeneo.”
