The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for Verdi’s “Aida.”

The company said that Marcelo Álvarez has withdrawn from the role of Radames and will be replaced by Rafael Davila on April 30 and Jorge de León on May 6, 10, 13, and 18.

This season Davila performed the role of Giasone in “Medea” and the title role of “Don Carlo” at the Metropolitan Opera. Meanwhile, de León made his Met debut in 2017 in the role of Radames and returned in 2019 for more performances of “Aida.”

Davila and de León are set to perform alongside Angela Meade Leah Crocetto, Olesya Petrova, George Gagnidze, and Christian Van Horn. Paolo Carignani conducts the legendary Sonja Frisell production.
