The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its performance of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” on Jan. 5.

The company noted that the role of Tamino will be sung by Eric Ferring, replacing Matthew Polenzani.

Ferring made his Met debut as Pong in “Turandot” this season and recently performed the role of Tamino on Jan. 1, 2022. He is set to perform the Royal Herald in “Don Carlos” and Arturo in “Lucia di Lammermoor” later at the Met. Ferring is an Ensemble Member of the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and has also performed at the Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and Wolf Trap Opera. He is set to record his solo debut album, “No Choice but Love,” with pianist Madeline Slettedahl under the DELOS records label.

Ferring joins a cast that includes Hera Hyesang Park, Kathryn Lewek, David Cangelosi, Rolando Villazón, Patrick Carfizzi, and Peixin Chen. Dame Jane Glover conducts.
