The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Don Carlo.”

The company announced that Anita Rachvelishvili will no longer sing the role of Eboli and will be replaced by Yulia Matochkina.

Matochkina recently made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in a production of “Rigoletto” during the 2021-22 season. This past summer she performed in productions of “Samson et Dalila” and “Don Carlo” at the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev as well as in productions of “Un Ballo in Maschera” at the Teatro alla Scala, and “Carmen” at the Arena di Verona. She is set to perform at the Royal Opera House and Dutch National Opera this season.

The mezzo joins a cast that includes Russell Thomas, Peter Mattei, Eleonora Buratto, Angela Meade, John Relyea, and Günther Groissböck. Carlo Rizzi conducts the four-act version of Verdi’s masterpiece.

“Don Carlo” opens on Nov. 3.
