Metropolitan Opera Announces 21 semifinalists for Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition

 The Metropolitan Opera has announced the 21 opera singers who have won regional auditions around the United States and will compete in the semifinal round of the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition on Sunday, April 24, beginning at 11 a.m. ET.

The semifinal competition will be held on the Met stage before a panel of judges and will be available to the public via a video live stream. The finalists will be determined and the Grand Finals will be held on Sunday, May 1.

The participants include Rachel Blaustein (Eastern Region: Olney, MD), Mary Hoskins (Rocky Mountain Region: Saratoga Springs, UT), Sophia Hunt (Gulf Coast Region: New York, NY), Alexandra Razskazoff (Southeast Region: New Brighton, MN), Julie Roset (Central Region: Avignon, France) Catherine Thornsley (Northwest Region: Flagstaff, AZ), Esther Tonea (Western Region: Buford, GA), Anna Kelly (Gulf Coast Region: Atlanta, GA), Maggie Reneé (Eastern Region: New York, NY), Elizabeth Sarian (Eastern Region: Plainview, NY), Anne Marie Stanley (Upper Midwest Region: Princeton, NJ), Cody Bowers (Western Region: Newnan, GA), Nicholas Kelliher (Eastern Region: Baldwin, NY), Matthew Cairns (Great Lakes Region: Toronto, Canada), Daniel O’Hearn (Rocky Mountain Region: Chicago, IL), Ángel Vargas (Gulf Coast Region: San Juan, Puerto Rico), Dennis Chmelensky (Eastern Region: Berlin, Germany), Erik Grendahl (Eastern Region: Boydton, VA), Samson McCrady (Central Region: Tucson, AZ), Le Bu (Midwest Region: Yan Cheng, China), and Jonas Jud (New England Region: St. Gallen, Switzerland).

The semifinalists will be accompanied by pianists Lachlan Glen and Bénédicte Jourdois, both alumni of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artists Program.
