The Metropolitan Opera has added three performances to Gerswhin’s “Porgy and Bess”

The company announced that “due to overwhelming public demand for the Met’s acclaimed new production of The Gershwins’ “Porgy and Bess,” three additional performances have been added to the schedule, on Feb. 4, 12, and 15, 2020.

The company stated that the majority of the original cast will return for the additional performances, including the leads, Eric Owens and Angel Blue. The performance on Feb. 4 will be conducted by J. David Jackson, and the performances on Feb. 12 and 15 by David Robertson. Tickets will go on sale Dec. 5 for Patrons, Dec. 7 for Members and Subscribers, and Dec. 9 for the general public.

The decision was made after all January performances which run until Feb. 1 were sold out. “Porgy and Bess” opened the 2019-20 season and scored rave reviews. The opening performance is set to be released on CD this month.
