Metropolitan Opera 2021-22 Live in HD Preview: ‘Rigoletto’ Heads to Cinemas

By David Salazar

The Met Opera’s Live in HD series for the 2021-22 season continues on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 with a transmission of “Rigoletto.”

The broadcast, which kicks off at 12:55 p.m. Eastern time, is conducted by Daniele Rustioni and stars Rosa Feola, Quinn Kelsey, Piotr Beczala, Andrea Mastroni, and Varduhi Abrahamyan.

Of the new production, OperaWire’s review noted that Feola and Beczala were notable standouts (Kelsey was ill during that performance).

“In the third act, Feola brought beautiful support to the quartet with lush high notes and connected phrases that stood out from the rest of the voices. The trio saw Feola bring out all the power of her voice, moving towards a fuller lyric sound and really digging into the text. In many ways, it was the most dramatic singing from the soprano all evening,” the review noted of Feola’s performance.
