Metropolitan Opera 2018-19 Live In HD Preview: Anna Netrebko Leads ‘Adriana Lecouvreur’

The Met Opera will continue its Live in HD series this Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 with a performance of Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur.”

The broadcast, which kicks off 12:55 p.m. Eastern time, will showcase star soprano Anna Netrebko in the title role; this is the second HD transmission for the diva. This will be the Russian diva’s 15th Live in HD broadcast; her first came in 2007 when she did “I Puritani.”

She will be joined by Anita Rachvelishvili as the Princess; the Georgian mezzo will be appearing in her fourth Live in HD performance. She was Amneris to Netrebko’s “Aida” earlier this season.

As Maurizio, Piotr Beczala will get his eighth performance streamed live to movie theaters; audiences have seen him in “Luisa Miller,“ “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “Manon,” “Rigoletto,” “Eugene Onegin,” “Rusalka,” and “Iolanta.”

The new production by Sir David McVicar (which previously premiered at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2010) will be conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.

This is the sixth Live in HD transmission of the season. It will be followed by “Carmen” on Feb. 2, “La Fille du Régiment” on March 2, “Die Walküre” on March 30, and “Dialogues des Carmélites” on May 11.
