Met Chorus Artists Receives Major Donations As Fundraising Campaign Nears End

By Logan Martell

As the Met Chorus Artists Emergency Grant Fundraiser nears the final week of its campaign, the generosity of its patrons and partners has made itself clear through a recent rise in donations.

In the past week alone, Rolex has made a donation of $250K in a show of support for artists whose contracts with the Met have been affected by the ongoing pandemic. In addition, an anonymous donor has pledged to match all funds donated up to $25K until the end of the month, with the fundraiser having raised at least $12K towards this goal. The overall goal is $500K, and this week’s donations have brought the organization much closer to achieving this.

All AGMA artists whose contracts with the Met were terminated are eligible to apply for the grant, with the deadline being July 31, 2020. This includes soloists, choristers, stage managers, dancers, stage directors, actors, and choreographers.

“We’re overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our amazing fans!” said Meredith Woodend, President of the Met Chorus Artists, Inc. in a press release. “With the uncertainty surrounding unemployment benefits, the need of our Met AGMA family has reached a critical point. Now is the time to support the artists who make the opera come alive on the stage every night!”
