The Mécénat Music Prix 3 Femmes has announced its 2022-23 winners.

In the French language category, the winner was composer Analia Llugdar. In the Indigenous (BIPOC) category, composer Alexandra Odger and librettist Nicole O’Bomsawin were the winners. Rebecca Gray and librettist Rachel Gray were the recipients of the award for the English language work category. Finally, the French language work encouragement prize went to composer Danaë Ménard-Bélanger and librettist Maïa Ménard-Bélanger.

These four artists will each create new contemporary Canadian operas that will receive their premieres in 2024. Additionally, each winner receives seed funding, mentorship, and dramaturgy by opera composer and dramaturg Luna Pearl Wolf, as well as funding for a musical workshop.

The prize is entering its third edition and was initiated by Musique 3 Femmes, Ensemble Vocal Arts-Québec, and Mécénat Musica with the aim of supporting new operas by emerging female and non-binary Canadian creators.
