Matthias Goerne, Anna Caterina Antonacci & Florian Boesch Lead Festival de Granada’s 2021 Season

The Festival de Granada in Spain has announced its 2021 season.

For the purposes of this article, we will only focus on the vocal and choral performances.

Nuria Rial and Maria José Moreno perform alongside José Sánchez-Montes and Orquesta Ciudad de Granada in a program with music by Schoenberg and  Mendelssohn.

Performance Date: June 17, 2021

Schola Antiqua and Juan Carlos Asensio  perform La Toma de Granada with music by Fray Hernando de Talavera.

Performance Date: June 19, 2021

La Danserye, Capella Prolationum and Schola Antiqua perform a program of music by Tilman Susato, Cristóbal de Morales, Thomas Crecquillon, Jacobus Clemens non Papa, Johannes Lupi, Jean de Richafort, Nicholas Gombert, and Antonio de Cabezón.

Florian Boesch and Malcolm Martineau perform Schubert’s “Schwanengesang.”

El León de Oro and Marco Antonio García de Paz perform a program of Italian and Spanish featuring music by Francisco Guerrero, Tomás Luis de Victoria, and Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina.

Christian Gerhaher and Gerold Huber perform Schubert’s “Abendröthe.”

Performance Date: June 27, 2021

Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen II” will be presented with the Academia Barroca del Festival de Granada and Coro de la Orquesta Ciudad de Granada. Rita Cosentino directs the production with Aarón Zapico conducts.

Performance Dates: July 1 & 2, 2021

The Orquesta Nacional de España performs alongside María Toledo, Josep Colom, and David Afkham in a program featuring music by De Falla.

Matthias Goerne and Alexander Schmalcz perform Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin.”

Performance Date: July 7, 2021

Anna Caterina Antonacci sings an “imaginary opera” in five acts featuring Forma Antiqva and conductor Aarón Zapico. The wiork will feature music by Claudio Monteverdi, Biagio Marini, Andrea Falconieri, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Barbara Strozzi, Samuel Scheidt, Tarquinio Merula, and Marco Uccellini.

Performance Date: July 8, 2021

The Concerto 1700 performs alongside Carlos Mena in a program entitled Obscura Noche featuring music by Llana, Literes, Bononcini, Torres, and Corelli.

Ute Lemper joins Vana Gierig, Romain Lecuver, and Cyril Garac for a program entitled Midnight in Granada featuring music by Friedrich Hollaender, Harold Arlen, Jacques Brel, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Astor Piazzolla, Léo Ferré, Charles Trenet, Joseph Kosma, Norbert Schultze, Gilbert Becaud, Pablo Neruda, Margarite Monnot, and Kurt Weill.
