
Matthew Polenzani Cancels ‘La Boheme’ Performance at Metropolitan Opera

The tenor took to social media and said, “My dear friends, I am sad to say that I have to cancel tonight’s performance of “La Boheme” at the Metropolitan Opera. I am heartbroken not to be able to join my friends, and I wish all my colleagues, ‘In Bocca al Luppo!’ for tonight. I hope to rejoin them on January 22.”
As a result, Yongzhao Yu will sing the role of Rodolfo. Yu made his Met debut in 2023 in the role of Flavio and is singing the Messenger in “Aida.” Yu has performed at the Irish National Opera, New Orleans Opera, and Houston Grand Opera.
The Jan. 18 performance is set to star Eleonora Buratto, Adela Zaharia, David Bizic, Sean Michael Plumb, Jongmin Park, and Donald Maxwell. Kensho Watanabe conducts the legendary production by Franco Zeffirelli.
