Master Chorale of South Florida Reveals 2023-24 Season

Master Chorale of South Florida has unveiled its 2023-24 schedule featuring music by  Fauré, Beethoven, and Mozart.

The season opens with Fauré’s Requiem, which will be preceded by Joshua Rist’s powerful “Invictus” and followed by Joel Thompson’s “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,” an emotional contemporary work based on the final words of Black Americans killed by authorities. Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” will be presented as well. Brett Karlin conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 27 & 29, 2023, at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, respectively

Next up is Master Chorale’s 2023 holiday show “Comfort & Joy,” with new takes on classic carols, cherished Chanukah songs, and more. Highlights include candlelit renditions of “O Holy Night,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” and “Silent Night.” Brett Karlin conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 8 & 9, 2023, at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, respectively

New World Symphony will join the Chorale for a presentation of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Featured soloists include soprano Joélle Harvey, mezzo-soprano Ronnita Miller, tenor Limmie Pulliam, and bass-baritone Musa Ngqungwana. Douglas Boyd conducts.

Performance Date: Jan. 13, 2024, at Adrienne Arsht Center

In April, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor will be performed alongside two motets, Mozart’s “Exsultate, jubilate” and Haydn’s “Insanae at vanae curae.” Brett Karlin conducts.

Performance Dates: Apr. 5 & 7, 2024,  at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Mizner Park

“Considering Matthew Shepard” by Craig Hella Johnson is an oratorio that honors the life and legacy of Matthew Shepard, a victim of one of America’s most notorious anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes. The piece blends Shepard’s words, parent interviews, news reports, and heartfelt poetry for a deeply moving experience. A portion of the concert proceeds will benefit SunServe, a South Florida organization supporting vulnerable LGBTQ+ individuals. Brett Karlin conducts.

Performance Dates: May 31 & June 1, 2024 at Sunshine Cathedral
