MassOpera to Present MassOperaParty & Vocal Competition Finals
By Francisco SalazarOn Oct. 15, MassOpera will host the MassOpera Party and Vocal Competition Finals at the Longy School of Music’s Gardens and Pickman Hall.
The MassOpera Party and Vocal Competition Finals will consist of a Cocktail Reception & Silent Auction followed by the Vocal Competition Finals.
MassOpera will also showcase a sneak peek of pieces from the New Opera Workshop’s ongoing development production of “Caravana de Mujeres” by Laura Barati (librettist) and Nicolas Lell Benavides (composer).
Special Guest, Michael J. Bobbitt, Executive Director of the Mass Cultural Council, will be presented with the Action Bearing Award for his advocacy and activism for the development of a cultural sector that is more equitable, just, representative, and anti-Racist.
In a statement Bobbit said, “I am honored by this recognition,” said Bobbitt, “and gratefully accept it on behalf of my dynamic team at Mass Cultural Council. Together we are traveling down an uncharted path, with the goal of investing our public resources equitably and supporting our vision of the Massachusetts cultural sector with creative, innovative, inclusive, accessible, and decolonized programming and grant making.”
Proceeds from the MassOpera Party and Vocal Competition Finals will go directly to MassOpera programming including the 2023 spring production of “The Magic Flute,” the New Opera Workshop development production of “Caravana de mujeres,” and our newest venture, “The Mirror Cabaret,” a semi-staged concert show that we hope to tour for the 2023-2024 season.
