By Francisco Salazar

Marin Alsop has been named Honorary Conductor of the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien for her commitment to the orchestra during her six-year tenure as Chief Conductor.

Under Marin’s direction, the orchestra made its first appearance at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2022, as well as tours to Spain, France, and Japan. They also recorded a host of critically acclaimed discs together, including John Adams’ “City Noir.”

The orchestra also cited Marin’s life’s work as one of the first women to pursue an international conducting career, paving the way for subsequent generations of female conductors.

Marin holds the titles of Conductor of Honour with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director Laureate and OrchKids Founder at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, after an outstanding 14-year tenure as Music Director.
