Marie Maidowski & Daria Brusova Named Winners of the International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch LiedDuo

The International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch LiedDuo named two winners for its 56th annual competition – soprano Marie Maidowski and pianist Youngseob Jeon, and soprano Daria Brusova with pianist Mark Vaza.

The IVC LiedDuo winners were announced on Oct. 15 following the competition. The jury, chaired by baritone Bo Skovhus, was unable to declare an outright winner, and therefore made the decision on the collaborative teams. Maidowski and Jeon, and Brusova and Vaza were awarded the Staetshuys Fund Prize second prizes.

Baritone Giacomo Schmidt and pianist Jong Sun Woo received the Van Riemsdijk Prize for best performance of “Veronese’s Green,” this year’s prize song, the ANED Fund Audience Prize, and the Engagement Prize International Lied Festival Zeist. Maidowski and Jeon also took home the Van Amelsvoort Prize for the best performance composition by a female composer, bass-baritone Vinicius Costa da Silv and Pierre-Nicolas Colombat won the Friends of the IVC Prize, mezzo-soprano Annabel Kennedy and Ana Manastireanu won the Press Prize and Junior Jury Prize. Soprano Elenora Hu and Amy Chang received the Friends of the Art Song Netherlands award.

The jury consisting of Skovhus, mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch, composer Errollyn Wallen, pianist Nino Gvetadze, pianist Stefan Vladar, and pianist Hans Eijsackers.

The 57th International Vocal Competition with focus on opera and oratorio, and will take place from Sept. 27 through Oct. 5, 2024 at the new Theater aan de Parade in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. During the Grand Finals in 2024, the singers will be accompanied by the Philzuid.
