
‘Maria’ Scores One Oscar Nomination
By Francisco SalazarPablo Larrain’s Maria Callas biopic is now an Academy Award-nominated film.
The film has been nominated for Best Cinematography for Edward Lachman. The cinematographer obtained his fourth nomination following recognition for his work in “Far from Heaven,” “Carol,” and “El Conde.”
Lachman will compete against Lol Crawley for “The Brutalist,” Greig Fraser for “Dune: Part Two,”Paul Guilhaume for “Emilia Perez,” and Jarin Blaschke for “Nosferatu.”
The nomination was the sole mention for the film which starred Angelina Jolie in the title role, Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Pablo Larraín directed the film from a screenplay by Steven Knight.
“Maria” tells the story of one of the world’s most renowned artists and reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days in Paris.
The Academy Awards will be held on March 2 at the Dolby Theater.
