Maria Brea, Eugene Brancoveanu, Elliot Madore & Kelly Guerra Lead Opera San Jose’s 2026-27 Season

Opera San José has announced its 2026-27 season celebrating its 43rd season.

In a statement, General Director & CEO Shawna Lucey said, “This season, Music Director and Opera San José Principal Conductor Joseph Marcheso and I are thrilled to present repertoire that will delight longtime opera lovers while welcoming new audiences into the magic of brilliant singing, transformative music, and stunning productions. Each production reflects Opera San José’s dedication to nurturing both emerging and established artists, supporting exciting role debuts, and delivering performances of the highest caliber. As the South Bay’s leading performing arts organization, we remain committed to developing opera’s next generation of talent and cultivating audiences for years to come. This season is an invitation to experience the transformative power and beauty of live music performances.”

The season opens with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Clay Thompson, Maria Brea, and Jonghyun Park. Alek Shrader directs and Joseph Marcheso leads the orchestra.

Performance Dates: Sept. 13-27, 2026 


“Fiddler on the Roof” will star Eugene Brancoveanu, Nicole Koh, and Melissa Sondhi. Crystal Manich directs and George Manahan conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15-29, 2026


Adams’ “Doctor Atomic” be directed by Shawna Lucey and conducted by Joseph Marcheso. the production will star Grammy Award-winning Canadian baritone Elliot Madore and mezzo-soprano Chrystal E. Williams.

Performance Dates: Feb. 14-28, 2027


The season concludes with Bizet’s “Carmen” with mezzo-soprano Kelly Guerra in the title role. She will be joined by tenor Alex Boyer. Mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves will direct.

Performance Dates: April 18-May 2, 2027
