The Mannheim Philharmonic Orchestra has launched a petition to obtain support from the Mannheim City Council.

In an official statement, the ensemble noted that its application for institutional funding from the city of Mannheim from 2022 onwards was rejected.

“The lack of support from the city makes it impossible for the Mannheim Philharmonic to maintain its extensive programme on the one hand, and on the other hand to make promising and lasting efforts to obtain funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg. The rejection of funding therefore hits the orchestra twice,” the organization’s spokespeople stated in an official press statement.

The orchestra, which was founded in 2009, will return to the stage on Feb. 23, 2022 with a performance featuring the Jerusalem Quartet. There will also be an upcoming concerts featuring the music of Brahms, among others.
