Major Artist Protests & Cancelations in U.S. After President Trump Embraces Putin

President Trump continues to isolate the United States as more artists cancel performances in the United States and the Kennedy Center.

Back in 2022, it was Russia that isolated itself when it invaded Ukraine and artists began canceling performances losing many A-listers who would regularly perform in the country.

Now famed violinist Christian Tetzlaff has vowed to cancel all his American performances due to Trump’s embrace of Russia.

In an article with the New York Times, Tetzlaff said, “There seems to be a quietness or denial about what’s going on. I feel utter anger. I cannot go on with this feeling inside. I cannot just go and play a tour of beautiful concerts.”

The violinist added that he hopes his boycott will send a message and start a conversation. He said, “I pay 32 percent taxes on every concert I play in the United States. That goes, at the moment, to a state that does partially horrible things with the money. And so to complain and then to say, ‘I take my money and go home’ — that’s also not good.”

Tetzlaff isn’t the only artist protesting the Trump administration. Following the takeover of the Kennedy Center, several artists canceled performances and quit their positions.

The latest artist was Rhiannon Giddens, a folk musician and composer.

She said, “I have decided to cancel my show at The Kennedy Center on May 11, 2025 and move it to The Anthem. The Kennedy Center show was booked long before the current administration decided to take over this previously bipartisan institution, but I cannot in good conscience play at The Kennedy Center with the change in programming direction forced on the institution by this new board. I kept quiet until now because I wanted to make a thoughtful and thought-out decision, but also because it took time to get the new gig set up and I wanted to make it as easy as possible for folks to follow us the eight 8-minute drive down the street to The Anthem! All Kennedy Center tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. The Anthem tickets are now on sale. I am lucky to have found another venue willing to make this change at such a late date.”
