Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Announces Another Cast Change for ‘Alcina’

By Francisco Salazar

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has announced a cast change for its Oct. 22 performance of “Alcina.”

The company said that Cecilia Bartoli’s laryngitis continues and will not be able to perform the third performance. As a result, Marie Lys will sing the title role following her performance on Oct. 20.

Lys will once again join a cast that includes Carlo Vistoli, Lucía Martín Cartón, Kristina Hammarström, Petr Nekoranec, and Riccardo Novaro. Gianluca Capuano conducts the production by Damiano Michieletto.

The soprano is a first-prize winner of the Competition for Baroque Opera Cesti 2018 and of the Concours International de Belcanto Vincenzo Bellini 2017. She is also the recipient of the Audience Prizes at the Concours de chant de Toulouse 2019 and at the London Handel Singing Competition 2016. Her repertoire includes baroque, Mozart, Bellini, and J. Strauss.

Bartoli is still expected to perform the Oct. 24 and 26 performances.
