Opera Parallèle is set to present the west coast premiere of “Sophia’s Forest” this February.

The one-act opera by Lembit Beecher and Hannah Moscovitch, will star Maggie Finnegan, Kindra Scharich, Bradley Kynard, Victoria Ko, Samantha Fung-Lee, and actor Charlotte Fanvu. Nicole Paiement will conduct a production directed by Brian Staufenbiel.

“Sophia’s Forest” focuses on the trauma experienced by immigrant families and how children use their imaginations to deal with trauma.

Performances are scheduled to kick off on Feb. 24 at the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, California. There will be additional performances on Feb. 25 and 26, 2022. One hour prior to each performance, audiences will be able to engage in conversation with the opera’s creators

Additionally, the company will host an open rehearsal at St. Joseph’s Arts Society on Feb. 15, 2022 and there will be a conversation with Beecher and opera director Indre Viskontas about the refugee/immigrant experience on Feb. 16, via Zoom.
