Madison Lyric Stage Announces 2023 Season

The Madison Lyric Stage on the Connecticut shoreline has announced its 2023 mainstage season.

The season opens with Tony Kushner’s play “Angels in America: Part I, Millennium Approaches.”  In Part 1 of “Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes,” Kushner tells the story of a handful of people trying to make sense of the world.

Performance Dates: June 9-18, 2023

The season will also feature Duncan Sheik and Stephen Sater’s rock musical “Spring Awakening.”

Performance Dates: July 21-30, 2023

Finally, audiences will also get to see “Climb Every Mountain: An Evening of Rodgers & Hammerstein.” The evening will feature selections from “Carousel,” “Cinderella,” “Oklahoma,” “State Fair,” “South Pacific,” “The King & I,” “The Sound of Music,” and more.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15-17, 2023

Other Performances 

The season will also include “I Was Born in Love with You” with Music by Burt Bacharach and Michel Legrand. Marc Deaton and guests pay tribute to Burt Bacharach and Michel Legrand, presenting their over five decades of song. This cabaret-style concert will be presented at Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Society.

Performance Date: May 5-6, 2023

Postcards from Pierrot will feature Marc Deaton performing Arnold Schoenberg’s masterpieces Pierrot Lunaire and The Book of the Hanging Gardens, along with the Altenberg lieder by Alban Berg.

Performance Dates: June 24-25, 2023

“Elegy for a Fallen Angel” will explore the world of child neglect and abandonment as it intersects with a fantasy world of zealous beliefs, as invoked by angels and demons. This new play by Marc Deaton features original music by Nathaniel Baker, based on themes by Purcell and Händel.

Performance Dates: August 12-13, 2023

Finally “Maidens, Witches and Femme Fatales … The Women of Opera” will feature some of the greatest areas and scenes from the world of opera, featuring works by Bizet, Barber, Britten, Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Strauss, and Wagner.

Performance Dates: Oct. 14-15, 2023
