Ludovic Tézier, Saioa Hernández, Mika Kares, Ewa Plonka Headline Savonlinna Opera Festival’s 2025 Season

The Savonlinna Opera Festival has unveiled its 2025 season.

First up is the “550 Years of Olavinlinna” anniversary concert. Erkki Lasonpalo conducts. Soloists will be announced at a later date.

Performance Date: July 3, 2025

Ludovic Tézier, Saioa Hernández, Goran Juric, and Johan Krogius headline “Macbeth.” Lorenzo Passerini conducts Ralf Långbacka’s production.

Performance Date: July 4 – 15, 2025

Yves Abel conducts Pet Halmen’s take on “Turandot.” Ewa Plonka, Amadi Lagha, Tuuli Takala, Sonja Herranen, and Petri Lindroos star.

Performance Date: July 5 – 25, 2025

Mika Kares takes on the title role of “Boris Godunov.” Other cast members include Timo Riihonen, Olga Heikkilä, Arttu Kataja, Tuomas Katajala, and Matti Turunen. Dima Slobodeniuk conducts and Nicola Raab directs.

Performance Date: July 11 – 24, 2025

Next comes the Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition.

Performance Date: July 13, 2025

Joonas Kokkonen’s “The Last Temptations” will be directed by Mikko Kouki. Ville Matvejeff conducts a cast featuring Mika Kares, Silja Aalto, Johan Krogius, Petri Lindroos, Tuomas Miettola, and Laura Malmivaara.

Performance Date: July 22 – 30, 2025

Dani Espasa conducts “The Fairy Queen” with Xavier Sabata, Ana Quintana, Judit Van Wanroij, Mark Milhoffer, Thomas Walker, and Nicolas Brooymans leading the cast. Joan Anton Rechi directs.

Performance Date: July 29 – August 2, 2025

Closing out the season will be a performance featuring the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra performing “The Fairy Queen” and “Il Diluvio Universale.” Soloists will be announced at a later date. Aapo Häkkinen conducts.

Performance Date: August 1, 2025
