Luca Salsi, Anna Netrebko, Lidia Fridman, Corinne Winters & Ian Bostridge Lead Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s 2024-25 Season

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced its 2024-25 season.

The season opens with Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra in a production by Richard Jones. Michele Mariotti conducts the production with a cast that includes Luca Salsi in the title role, Eleonora Buratto, Stefan Pop, and Michele Pertusi. The opening night will be streamed on Rai5 and Radio3. Another cast will be showcased which includes Claudio Sgura, Maria Motolygina, Dmitri Ulyanov, and Antony Ciaramitaro.

Performance Dates: Nov. 27-Dec. 5, 2024

Anna Netrebko, Anna Pirozzi, Yolanda Auyanet, Saioa Hernández, and Anastasia Bartoli star in Puccini’s “Tosca.” The production by Alessandro Talevi will be a recreation of the first-ever production of the opera and will celebrate the work’s 125th anniversary. The cast also includes Gregory Kunde, Yusif Euvazov, Luciano Ganci, Vincenzo Costanzo, Igor Golovatenko, Gevorg Hakobyan, Amartuvshin Enkbath, Gabriele Viviani, and Claudio Sgura.

Performance Dates: Jan. 14-19, March 1-6 & May 9-13, 2025

Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia” returns to the house after 45 years and will be directed by Valentina Carrasco. Roberto Abbado conducts a cast that includes Lidia Fridman in her Roma debut and Angela Meade. The cast also includes Enea Scala, Daniela Mack, Alex Esposito, Carlo Lepore, René Barbera and Teresa Iervolino.

Performance Dates: Feb. 16-23, 2025

Händel’s “Alcina” will make its Teatro Costanzi premiere and will star Mariangela Sicilia and Carlo Vistoli. Pierre Audi conducts the production and Rinaldo Alessandrini conducts. Caterina Piva, Anthony Gregory, Mary Bevan, Silvia Frigato, and Francesco Salvador round out the cast.

Performance Dates: March 18-26, 2025

The company completes its “Trittico Ricomposto” project with Calixto Bieto directing  “Suor Angelica/Il prigioniero.” Corinne Winters, Yolanda Auyanet, and Marie-Nicole Lemieux star in Puccini’s opera, while Dallapiccola’s opera will star Mattia Olivieri, John Daszak, and Ekaterina Semenchuck. Michele Mariotti conducts.

The work will be streamed on Rai Cultura through Rai5.

Rossini’s “L’Italiana in Algeri” will be presented in a production by Maurizio Scaparro. Sesto Quatrini conducts a cast that includes Maria Kataeva, Chiara Amarù, Paolo Bordogna, Adolfo Corrado, Dave Monaco, Giorgio Misseri, Misha Kiria, and Vincenzo Taormina.

Performance Dates: June 5-12, 2025

Bizet’s “Carmen” will be presented in a production by Fabio Ceresa and conducted by Omer Meir Wellber. Gaëlle Arquez sings the title role alongside Ketevan Kemoklidze. The cast also includes Joshua Guerrero, Jorge de León, Mariangela Sicilia, Ekaterina Bakanova, Erwin Schrott, and Andrei Bondarenko.

Deborah Warner directs Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw” with Henrik Nánási conducting. Ian Bostridge and Christine Rice star.

Kaija Saariaho’s “Adriana Mater” makes its Italian debut in a new production by Peter Sellars. Ernest Martínez Izquierdo conducts the opera and Fleur Barron, Axelle Fanyo, Nicholas Phan, and Christopher Purves star

Performance Dates: Oct. 9-16, 2025

Romeo Castellucci directs “Stabat Mater” which will include music by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Giacinto Scelsi. Michele Mariotti conducts a cast that includes Emőke Baráth and Sara Mingardo.

Teatro Nazionale

Mozart’s “Il Re Pastore” will be performed in a new production by Cecilia Ligorio. Manlio Benzi conducts a cast that is led by Juan Francisco Gatell, Miriam Albano, Francesca Pia Vitale, Benedetta Torre, and Krystian Adam.

Performance Dates: May 14-23, 2025

Janáček’s “The Diary of One Who Disappeared” and Poulenc’s “La Voix Humaine” will be directed by Andrea Bernard. Matthias Koziorowski, Veronica Simeoni, and Anna Caterina Antonacci star while Donald Sulzen is the pianist.
