SAS Performing Arts is set to honor dramatic soprano Luana DeVol in its “Richard Wagner Gala” on June 2.

DeVol will be recognized for her career and contributions to opera. In 1997 and 2000, she was named Singer of the Year by German opera magazine, Opernwelt. DeVol performed major roles in La Scala, Milan, Teatro de Liceu, Barcelona, the Wagner Festspiel Bayreuth, Vienna Staatsoper, and the Metropolitan Opera. She remains active in the international musical community, serving as a trustee of the Bayreuth Young Artists Festival, an honorary member of the Richard Wagner Society, and a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists, Opera America, and the American-German Chamber of Commerce.

The gala will feature excerpts from Wagner’s “Tannhauser,” “Das Rheingold,” “Parsifal,” and the first act of “Die Walkure.” The cast features sopranos Kirsten Chambers, Gillian Watson, and Monica Camafreita, mezzo-sopranos Annie Chester, tenor Jon Janacek, and bass Virdell Williams. Eric Molson is the collaborative pianist for the concert.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the SAS Performing Arts Company Luana DeVol scholarship for the Dramatic Voice.
