Long Beach Opera’s 2025 Season to Spotlight the Work of Pauline Oliveros

Long Beach Opera has announced that its 2025 programming will center on the work of Pauline Oliveros.

Oliveros (1932-2016) is a famed American composer known for her work in experimental and electronic music. She was a founding member of the San Francisco Tape Music Center and explored the concepts of “deep listening” and “sonic awareness” in her work.

The programming kicks off in December 2024 with “Earth Ears: A Sonic Ritual,” set to take place at the Angel’s Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro.

Performance Date: Dec. 15, 2024

Next up is “El Relicario de los Animals,” composed in 1979. The performance, which is set to take place at The Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles will star Jamie Barton and Brenda Rae. James Darrah directs and Christopher Rountree conducts.

Performance Date: Feb. 15 & 16, 2025

Next up is “The Library of Maps: An Opera in Many Parts” at the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach.

Performance Date: April 12 & 13, 2025

The season closes with “The Nubian Word for Flowers; A Phantom Opera,” performed alongside IONE, Oliveros’ longtime partner. This is the west coast premiere of the work.

Performance Date: July 26 & 27, 2025
