The Lithuanian National Opera has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Der Rosenkavalier.”

The company revealed that due to serious family problems, Carmela Remigio has had to withdraw from the production. As a result, Joana Gedmintaitė will sing the role of the Marschallin.

Gedmintaitė is a Lithuanian soprano who has performed in the UK, Estonia, Japan, USA, France, Sweden, and Switzerland. She is also a regular with the Lithuanian Opera and Symphony. Her repertoire ranges from Donizetti, Mozart, and Puccini to Gounod, Tchaikovsky, and Verdi.

The soprano is set to join a cast that includes Eglė Šidlauskaitė playing Octavian, Albert Pesendorfer as Baron Ochs, Lina Dambrauskaitè interpreting the role of Sophie, and Steponas Zonys as Faninal. Sesto Quatrini conducts the new production by Damiano Michieletto.

“Der Rosenkavalier” opens on Sept. 3, 2021 and runs through March 19, 2022.
