Lisette Oropesa, Saioa Hernández, Anna Netrebko, Jakub Józef Orliński & Piotr Beczala Lead Teatro Real de Madrid’s 2022-23 Season

The Teatro Real de Madrid has announced its 2022-23 season featuring nine company premieres.

Opera

Philip Glass’ “Orphée” opens the season with Jordi Francés conducting Rafael Villalobos’ production. The chamber work stars María Rey-Joly, Isabella Gaudí, Sylvia Schwartz, Natalia Labourdette, Mikeldi Atxalandabaso, Juan Antonio Sanabria, Edward Nelson, Karina Demurova, Pablo García-López, and Emmanuel Faraldo.

Performance Dates: Sept. 21-25, 2022

Nicola Luisotti, Diego García Rodríguez, and Daniel Oren conduct Verdi’s “Aida” in a new production by Hugo de Ana. The opera will star Krassimira Stoyanova, Maria Agresta, Roberta Mantegna, and Anna Netrebko alongside Jamie Barton, Sonia Ganassi, Ketevan Kemoklidze, Piotr Beczala, Yusif Eyvazof, Jorge de León, Alexander Vinogradov, Jongmin Park, Simón Orfila, Carlos Álvarez, Artur Ruciński, and Gevorg Hakobyan.

Performance Dates: Oct. 24-Nov. 14, 2022

Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” will star Julie Roset, Georg Nigl, Charlotte Hellekant, Alex Rosen, Luciana Mancini, Konstantin Wolff, and Julián Millán. Leonardo García Alarcón conducts Sasha Waltz’s production.

Joan Magrané’s “Diàlegs de Tirant i Carmesina” will star Josep-Ramon Olivé, Isabella Gaudí, and Ana Brull. Francesc Prat conducts Marc Rosich’s production.

Nadine Sierra and Jessica Pratt star in Bellini’s “La Sonnambula” with Xabier Anduaga, Lawrence Brownlee, Francesco Demuro, Roberto Tagliavini, and Fernando Radó. Maurizio Benini conducts Bárbara Lluch’s production.

Lea Desandre, Ana Vieira Leite, and Renato Dolcini star in Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” with William Christie conducting and Blanca Li directing.

Performance Dates: Jan. 17-22, 2023

Sara Jakubiak plays the title role in Strauss’ “Arabella” with Sarah Defrise, Martin Winkler, Anne Sofie von Otter, Josef Wagner, and Elena Sancho Pereg. David Afkham and Jordi Francés conduct Christof Loy’s production.

Performance Dates: Jan. 24-Feb. 12, 2023

Corselli’s “Aquiles en Esciros” will star Andrea Mastroni, José Coca, Andrea Mastroni, José Coca, Tim Mead, Francesca Aspromonte, Sabina Puértolas, Franco Fagioli, Kryzstian Adam, and Juan Sancho. Ivor Bolton conducts Mariame Clément’s production.

Manuel de Fallas’ “El retablo de Maese Pedro” will star Airam Hernández and José Antonio López. Pablo Heras-Casado conducts.

Performance Date: Feb. 18, 2023

Martin Winkler, Alexander Teliga, Ania Jeruc, Vasily Efimov, Anton Rositskiy, Stephan Astakhov, Dmitry Ivanchey, Margarita Nekrasova, and Iwona Sobotka star in Shostakovich’s “The Nose.” Mark Wigglesworth conducts Barrie Kosky’s production.

Performance Dates: March 13-30, 2023

John Adams’ “Nixon in China” will star Jacques Imbrailo, Leigh Melrose, Borja Quiza, Sandra Ferrández, Gemma Coma-Alabert, Ekaterina Antípova, Alfred Kim, Sarah Tynan, and Audrey Luna. Ivor Bolton conducts the production by John Fulljames.

Performance Dates: April 17-May 2, 2023

Händel’s “Tolomeo” will star Jakub Józef Orliński, Melissa Petit, Andrea Mastroni, Giuseppina Bridelli, and Paul-Antoine Benós-Dijan. Francesco Corti conducts.

Performance Date: April 23, 2023

Andreas Schager, Franz-Josef Selig, Ingela Brimberg, John Lundgren, Neal Cooper, and Ekaterina Gubanova lead a semi-staged production of “Tristan und Isolde” with Semyon Bychkov conducting and Justin Way directing.

Performance Dates: April 25-May 6, 2023

Giacomo Sagripanti conducts Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia” in a production by Laurent Pelly. The cast is led by Alex Esposito, Adrian Sampetrean, Lisette Oropesa, Sara Blanch, Mischa Kiria, Pietro Spagnoli, Edgardo Rocha, Anicio Zorzi Giustiniani, Florian Sempey, and Mattia Olivieri.

Performance Dates: May 31-June 12, 2023

Durón’s “Coronis” is set to be performed in concert with Ana Quintans, Isabelle Druet, Victoire Bunel, Anthéa Pichanik, Marielou Jacquard, Caroline Meng, Cyril Auvity, Brenda Poupard, and Olivier Fichet. Vincent Dumestre conducts.

Performance Date: June 10, 2023

Helena Rasker, Polina Pastirchak, and Kateryna Kasper star in Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” in concert form. René Jacobs conducts.

Performance Date: June 13, 2023

The season closes with Puccini’s “Turandot” starring Anna Pirozzi, Elena Pankratova, and Saioa Hernández. They are joined by Adam Palka, Liang Li, Fernando Radó, Jorge de León, Piero Pretti, Martin Muehle, Nadine Sierra, Ruth Iniesta, and Miren Urbieta-Vega.

Cecilia Bartoli performs arias by Händel, Porpora, Adolph Hasse, Johann Friedrich Fasch, Johann Joachim Quantz, Leonardo Leo, and Antonio Caldara.

Gregory Kunde and Carlos Álvarez perform selections by Verdi, Puccini, and Bizet under the direction of Diego Martin-Etxebarria.

Matthias Goerne and Camerata RCO perform selections from Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Hugo Wolf, Antonín Dvorák, Robert Schumann, and György Ligeti.

Joyce DiDonato and Maxim Emelyanichev bring “Eden” to the Teatro Real.

Donizetti, Verdi, and Massenet make up Javier Camarena’s concert. He is joined by conductor Iván López-Reynoso.
