The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “La Traviata.”

The company announced that Lisette Oropesa and Pretty Yende will replace Rosa Feola as Violetta. They will alternate with Kristina Mkhitaryan, who is also set to sing the role.

Oropesa is well known for her interpretation of Violetta having performed it at the Arena di Verona, Opera Philadelphia, and Metropolitan Opera.

“Lisette Oropesa… is one of the few artists that can manage to pull off the role with not only the dramatic temperament but also the vocal consistency,” said OperaWire review of her Met Opera performance.

Meanwhile, Yende recently debuted the role at the Opera de Paris. Of her performance in Paris, OperaWire’s review noted, “[From the start of the opera] it was clear that Yende’s voice was going to handle the role quite well when she sang her first phrase ‘Flora, amici, la note che resta.'”

Both singers join a cast that includes Pavol Breslik and Dmitry Korchak as Alfredo Germont and Artur Rucinski, Angel Òdena, and Giovanni Meoni as Giorgio Germont.

The production opens on Dec. 5 and runs through 30, 2020.
