It’s a weekend filled with broadcasts, premieres and new productions that are not be missed.

Tosca – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria

Piotr Beczala receives his Kammersänger honor after the performance of Puccini’s masterpiece. He is joined by Nina Stemme and Carlos Álvarez. The starry cast is joined by Marc Armiliato in the pit. For those who can not attend the performance, ORF is set to broadcast it.

I Puritani – Opera Royal de Wallonie, Belgium

The rising star Zuzana Marakova takes on the leading role in Bellini’s final opera with Lawrence Brownlee as her lover Arturo. Speranza Scapucci conducts the new production by Vincent Boussard with a cast rounded out by Mario Cassi and Luca Dall’Amico. For those not in Belgium, Culturebox will broadcast the opera.

Don Giovanni – Opera de Paris, France

Étienne Dupuis sings the title role in Ivo Van Hove’s new production, which is set for the Metropolitan Opera. He is joined by his wife Nicole Car, Ain Anger, Jacquelyn Wagner, Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Philippe Sly, Mikhail Timoshenko, and Elsa Dreisig also star. Philippe Jordan conducts the weekend’s performance, which is set for cinemas.

La Traviata – Arena di Verona, Italy

Franco Zeffirelli’s final production makes its world premiere with a cast that includes Aleksandra Kurzak in the leading role, Pavel Petrov, and legendary baritone Leo Nucci. Daniel Oren conducts the momentous occasion.

I Masnadieri – Teatro alla Scala, Italy

Lisette Oropesa continues her acclaimed run of Verdi’s early work in her house debut. She is joined by Fabio Sartori, Massimo Cavalletti, and Michele Pertusi. Sir David McVicar directs the new production with Michele Mariotti conducting.

Luisa Fernanda – Teatro Campoamor, Spain

Davinia Rodríguez makes her debut at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo in Moreno Torroba’s famed work. She is joined by Sabina Puértolas, Joel Prieto, Angel Odena, and Maria Jose Suarez. Oliver Diaz conducts the production by Emilio Sagi.

Nabucco – Opernhaus Zurich, Switzerland

Michael Volle stars in the title role of Verdi’s early masterpiece. He is joined by Anna Smirnova as Abigaille, Benjamin Bernheim in his role debut as Ismaele, Georg Zeppenfeld as Zaccaria, and Veronica Simeoni as Fenena. The new production is directed by  Andreas Homoki and Fabio Luisi conducts. ARTE is set to broadcast the premiere for those not in Zurich.
