The Savonlinna Opera Festival is set to open later this month. Here is a rundown of the 2023 slate.

First up is “Romeo et Juliette,” conducted by Yves Abel and directed by Amy Lane. The opera stars superstar Lisette Oropesa and Amitai Pati in Cast A, with Marjukka Tepponen and Antonio Poli in the second cast.

Performance Dates: July 1 – 17, 2023

Lisette Oropesa will perform in recital. The program will include music by Gounod, Massenet, Ravel, Bizet, Délibes, Barbieri, de Falla, Granads, Chapí, and Rodrigo.

Performance Dates: July 9, 2023

“The Barber of Seville” will star Ville Rusanen, Gayane Babajanyan, Vassilis Kavayas, and Petri Lindroos.” Michele Gamba conducts and Kari Heiskanen directs.

Performance Dates: July 10 – 22, 2023

Audiences will get a chance to check out the Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition.

Performance Dates: July 16, 2023

The company will present a double bill of “Bluebeard’s Castle” and “A Room of One’s Own.” Dong-won Seo and Dorottya Láng star in “Bluebeard,” while Dorothea Brandt, Maria Markina, Evelyn Krahe, Marie-Pierre Roy, Anton Kuzenok, and Kenneth Mattice star in “A Room of One’s Own.” Francis Hüsers directs the Bartók opera, while Derek Gimpel directs the restaging of “A Room of One’s Own.”

Performance Dates: July 26 & 28, 2023

The festival also features performances by Katie Melua and Samu Haber.
