Lise Lindstrom has canceled her participation in Dresden’s Ring Cycle.

The soprano took to social media and said, “due to unforeseen circumstances, the situation in Dresden has changed and I have withdrawn from the Ring.  To my dear fans, friends, and family: I am disappointed to not be bringing my Brundhilde to you at this time.”

As a result, Ricarda Merbeth will take on the role. Merbeth has performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper München, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, and New National Theatre Tokyo, among others.

Merbeth joins a cast that includes Andreas Schager, Georg Zeppenfeld, John Lundgren, Allison Oakes, and Christa Mayer. Christian Thielemann conducts.

The Ring opens on Jan. 27, 2023.

Next up, Lindstrom will perform in a production of “Elektra” in Copenhagen.
