Linda Watson To Be Honored As Kammersängerin In Vienna

On Jan. 19, 2020, soprano Linda Watson will be honored with the title of Kammersängerin at the Wiener Staatsoper.

The soprano will be performing in a production of “Lohengrin” as Ortrud on that evening.

Watson, was originally brought to Vienna as mezzo-soprano by Leonard Bernstein to sing in his opera “A Quiet Place.” From there she would become an ensemble member in Leipzig and Düsseldorf and went on to perform some of the most important Wagnerian roles with the organizations. Among her most roles are Brünnhilde in “Der Ring des Nibelungen,” Isolde in “Tristan und Isolde,” and Kundry in “Parsifal.”

She has also performed in some of the world’s greatest houses including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Nederlandse Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper and the Metropolitan Opera New York, with leading conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Valery Gergiev, Christian Thielemann, Antonio Pappano, Daniele Gatti, Esa – Pekka Salonen and Kent Nagano.
