Audiences will get a preview of Missy Mazzoli’s hotly anticipated “Lincoln in the Bardo” on Oct. 28, 2024.
The famed composer will be on hand to present a section from her work, which is set for a Metropolitan Opera premiere in 2026, during the Marian MacDowell Arts Advocacy Award in honor of art collector and philanthropist Komal Shah.
MacDowell’s National Benefit, an annual celebration and gathering of MacDowell artists, supporters, board members, and friends, will take place at Gotham Hall in New York City. Mazzoli is a MacDowell Fellow.
“Lincoln in the Bardo” features a libretto by Royce Vavrek, based on George Saunders’s novel. According to Mazzoli’s official website, Lileana Blain-Cruz will direct the opera’s production. The opera “spins a fantastical and supernatural tale inspired by a true historical event.”
