
Levente Török Appointed General Music Director of Theater Aachen
By Francisco SalazarLevente Török has been appointed General Music Director of Theater Aachen.
Török will take up his new position on August 1, 2026 with a contract that is set to run through July 31, 2031.
The decision was made based on a thorough selection process conducted by a search committee. This committee included, in addition to General Manager Elena Tzavara and Administrative Director Miriam Sasserath (both from the Aachen Theatre), the orchestra board, and cultural policy representatives from the city council parties, a trio of experts: Louwrens Langevoort, former director of the Cologne Philharmonic and managing director of Köln Musik GmbH; Boris Ignatov, casting director at the Stuttgart State Opera; and Andreas Bausdorf, managing director of the German Orchestra Foundation and member of the German Music Council.
In a statement Török said, “Even during the selection process, I was able to get to know the city and its people a little. The openness of the residents and the vibrant energy of daily life there particularly impressed me. The potential of the theater and the symphony orchestra is enormous, and it is a great honor and motivation for me to have the opportunity to further develop this strong ensemble. I gladly accept this challenge and want to be an empathetic and equal partner to my colleagues in pursuing our shared visions. I am confident that together we will achieve a great deal!”
Török is currently the principal conductor of the North Hungarian Symphony Orchestra in Miskolc and has performed with such prestigious organizations as the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (ORTVE), the Icelandic Opera, the Hungarian State Opera.
