
Leah Hawkins & Murat Karahan to Headline Opera Italiana is in the Air’s Central Park Concert
By David SalazarOpera Italiana is in the Air heads to New York City for “Opera Unbound: A Sunset Serenade.”
The showcase, set for Sept. 24, 2025 at Central Park, will feature soprano Leah Hawkins and tenor Murat Karahan under the baton of Alvise Casellati, who will lead an ensemble of musicians from the Met Opera, New York Philharmonic, Juilliard, and Manhattan School of Music.
The program will include arias, duets, and symphonies by such composers as Verdi, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Rossini, and Puccini, as well as a world premiere by Juilliard Pre-College Composer Luke Soneral.
The showcase kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and has a duration of approximately 90 minutes.
This very program was set for performance on June 16 at the Lincoln Memorial. However, due to complex weather conditions the performance was moved indoors and live stream instead.
Opera Italiana is in the Air was created in 2017 in Central Park, New York, following a conversation between Daniele Bodini, Chairman of the FIAC Foundation, and Alvise Casellati, Conductor and former Secretary of FIAC. Since then, it has showcased concerts in Central Park, Washington, and Miami as well as in Italy: Naples, Milan, and Rome.
