Lawrence Brownlee has received the honor of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
The tenor posted a statement on social media stating, “Chevalier! ❤️ I am deeply honored to have been awarded the rank of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Minister of Culture of France! This recognition is a testament to the incredible support I’ve received from the French cultural community throughout my career. I look forward to continuing to share my passion for opera with audiences here.”
Brownlee recently performed La Fille du Regiment” at the Paris Opera receiving rave reviews. OperaWire noted, “Tonio is Brownlee’s playground, and his immense vocal security sometimes makes the character’s clumsiness—so integral to his charm—feel diminished. In other words, we don’t marvel at Tonio’s “miraculous” ability to sing high Cs; we hear in Brownlee’s voice a fortress of unshakable strength.”
He next performs at Paris Opera in a production of “I Puritani” and returns to the Metropolitan Opera for “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.” He also performs at the Boston Lyric Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper and the Teatro alla Scala.
