Laura Strickling & Jesse Blumberg to Headline Elgin Symphony Orchestra Concert

By David Salazar

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will present a special program on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. at The Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin, Illinois.

The showcase features music Director Chad Goodman leading the orchestra alongside the Elgin Master Chorale and soprano Laura Strickling and baritone Jesse Blumberg.

The program opens with Valerie Coleman’s “Seven O’Clock Shout,” composed during the COVID-19 pandemic as a tribute to frontline workers and the communal resilience that sustained cities through crisis. Then come selections from Edvard Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” with Fauré’s “Requiem” capping the showcase.

Strickling returns to the ESO having last appeared with the orchestra in May 2024 for a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Blumberg joins as guest baritone for the occasion.
