The Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal is set to world premiere “L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi” in a double bill with “La Voix Humaine,” starting on March 19, 2020.

The new opera is written by Laurence Jobidon and Pascale St-Onge and will star Vanessa Croome and Florence Bourget, two artists in residence at the Atelier Lyrique. They will be accompanied by pianist Jennifer Szeto. The opera follows two stranger as they travel through a wintry road towards a better life.

“We truly fell for Laurence and Pascale’s powerful work at the presentation of the Mécénat Musica Prix 3 femmes awards in 2018,”stated Chantal Lambert, the director of Atleier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. “We immediately knew that we had to commission a work from them this season and we are absolutely delighted with the result.”

Meanwhile, “La Voix Humaine” will feature soprano France Bellemare with pianist Marie-Ève Scarfone at the piano.

“I am very happy to be working once again with France Bellemare, whose career has been flourishing since she left the Atelier lyrique in 2016. To see her carry this demanding role with such aplomb fills me with pride,” Lambert added.
