Las Vegas Sinfonietta & Vegas City Opera to Present ‘Semele’

By David Salazar

The Las Vegas Sinfonietta, in partnership with Vegas City Opera, will present a semi-staged concert production of Händel’s “Semele.”

The opera, which will take the stage on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Clark County Library, will be presented in a production that reimagines the famed work through the lens of contemporary celebrity culture, following a rising reality TV star and social media icon seduced by a powerful Hollywood mogul promising immortality. In this version, Semele’s pursuit of fame is surrounded by ring lights, livestreams, and digital followers, and ultimately leads to a dramatic public downfall, blending opera, pop culture, and digital theater.

To create this world, the production will transform the space into a stylized digital environment, where performers interact with iPhones, streaming devices, and ring lights, immersing the audience in a modern media-saturated world. This hybrid staging positions viewers as both witnesses and participants in a digital-age tragedy where the intoxicating allure of fame can elevate and destroy in equal measure.

Taras Krysa conducts the performance.
