By David Salazar

La Monnaie / de Munt is set to present Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Henry VIII” starting on May 11, 2023.

Alain Altinoglu conducts a cast starring Lionel Lhote, Ed Lyon, Vincent Le Texier, Enguerrand De Hys, Werner Van Mechelen, Jérôme Varnier, Marie-Adeline Henry, Nora Gubisch, and Claire Antoine, among many others.

The production, which is directed by Olivier Py, was originally set to open in 2021 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death. However, it was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.

There will be a total of eight performances through May 21, 2023.

Prior to the opening of the production, professor of musicology Annelies Andries, pianist David Zobel, and moderator Jasper Croonen will present a deep-dive into the score as part of the organization’s “Inside The Music” lectures.
