Korean National Opera Unveils 2025 Season ‘What is Love?’
By David SalazarThe Korean National Opera has announced its 2025 season.
“For the coming year of 2025, we have prepared four operas that will comfort the hearts of the audience with the keyword ‘love.’ Through each work, we will show the various aspects and depth of love,” said Choi Sang-ho, the director of the National Opera Company.
First up is “Le Nozze di Figaro.” David Rylant conducts and Vincent Huguet directs the Mozart classic.
Performance Dates: March 20 – 23, 2025
Then comes “The Love for Three Oranges.” Lorenzo Fioroni directs the production which will be conducted by Felix Krieger. This is the first time the opera is presented in Korea.
Performance Dates: June 26 – 29, 2025
“Hwajeonga” is next. The work by composer Choi Woo-jung and librettist Bae Sam-sik will be direted by Jeong Yeong-du. Song Ahn-hoon conducts. The opera is set in April 1950, just before the outbreak of the Korean War, and tells the story of nine women.
Performance Dates: Oct. 25 & 26, 2025
The season concludes with “Tristan und Isolde.” Jaap van Zeden conducts a production by Stefan Merki.
Performance Dates: Dec. 4-7, 2025
